Apothecia: 1-4 mm with conspicious membranaceous margin, hymenium orange
Asci: 8-spored, spores uniseriate
Ascospores: subglobose, (12-)13-15 x (11-)12-14 µm, ornamentation consisting of ridges about 0.3 µm wide, forming a fine-meshed reticulum with 8-15(-20) meshes/diameter, one large oil droplet
Hosts: Funaria hygrometrica
Infectious structures: infects the rhizoids (Döbbeler 1979)
Habitat: in open habitats on soil together with Funaria hygrometrica, especially on burned ground
Distribution: Austria, Belgium (De Meulder 1994), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany (common BW, BY, BE, BB, HH, MV, NI, NW, RP, SN, ST, SH, TH), Hungary, The Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Svalbard, United Kingdom, United States, probably cosmopolitan
Notes: In the past, often confused with Lamprospora dictydiola which has similar spores.
