Octospora affinis tuft of Orthotrichum affine Octospora affinis, free ascospores

Apothecia: to 1.2 mm in diameter, hymenium yellowish-orange to pale-orange, margin finely fimbriate
Paraphyses: straight to apical slightly curved
Asci: (130-)150-200 x 15-22 µm, 8-spored, spores uniseriate
Ascospores:  broadly ellipsoid, (14-)14.5-16.5(-17) x (12-)12.5-13.5(-14.5) µm, ornamented with rounded, isolated warts, one oil droplet of 9-11 µm in diameter
Host: Orthotrichum affine
Infectious structures: infects the rhizoids, appressoria free or with few accompanying hyphae, about 25-35 x 10-15 µm, 2-3 septate
Habitat: epiphytic on trees and shrubs in tufts of Orthotrichum affine
Distribution: in Germany common in the South, scatterd in the North (BW, BY, HE, HH, NI, ST, TH) also known from Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Great Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands
Notes: It was included in section Wrightoideae by Benkert (1998a) but this was proven wrong by Sochorová et al. (2020)
