Apothecia: sessile, turbinate to cylindrical, 0.3–1.0 mm high, less than 1 mm in diameter, hymenium orange-yellow, yellow to almost hyaline, fleshy. Margin and receptacle covered by many stiff hyaline hairs
Hairs: straight or slightly bent, stiff, pointed, septate, very thick-walled, hyaline, (150)165–195 µm long, upper part 6–7 µm wide, base to 16 µm wide, rising from angular cells on outer excipulum
Paraphyses: slender, cylindrical, pluriseptate, straight or slightly bent at the apex, sometimes branched, 2–3 µm wide, not or only slightly widened at the apex, living cells with minute yellow granules
Asci: 180–230 x 21–25 µm, cylindrical, operculate, inamyloid, containing eight uniseriate ascospores
Ascospores: broadly ellipsoid to broadly subfusoid, hyaline, (24.7)25–26(27.0) x (14.2)14.8–16.3 µm, excluding ornamentation, Q = 1.4–1.6, containing one lipid body 12–15 µm in diam., or two lipid bodies 7–9 µm in diam., ornamentation consisting of prominent, rounded to irregularly outlined warts, when rounded 0.5–2 µm in diam., sometimes confluent and then forming irregular ridges 1–3 µm wide and to 7 µm long or rarely forming a labyrinth-like structure, ornamentation 0.3–0.8 µm high, with the highest structures at the poles, reminding of small apical caps or appendages, most ornamentation structures containing many small cavities giving the impression of a foamy interior
Host: Asterella lindenbergiana
Infectious structures: infects the thallus, appressoria mostly on chlorophyllous cells within the air chambers, rarely on epidermal cells, 1-celled, 9–12 x 15-20 µm in side view; haustoria strongly ramified and curled
Habitat: arctic-alpine snow beds and rock crevices
Distribution: Norway
