Lamprospora feurichiana (Kirschst.) Benkert
Feddes Repertorium 17: 639 (1976)

Basionuym: Barlaeina feurichiana Kirschst., Annls mycol. 33(3/4): 205 (1935)
Type: Germany, 'Auf Sand zwischen Moosen. Göda in Sachsen', 1925-Oct-27, G. Feurich (holotype lost?, isotype DR)
Lamprospora feurichiana Lamprospora feurichiana
1: Lamprospora feurichiana, apothecia between shoots of Ceratodon purpureus, Germany, Harzungen, J. Eckstein 2020-Nov-20 2: Lamprospora feurichiana, ascus with ascospores in water, Germany, Harzungen, J. Eckstein 2020-Nov-20
Apothecia: (0.5-)1-2 mm in diameter, with membranaceous margin, hymenium orange to orange-red
Asci: 8-spored, spores uniseriate
Ascospores: globose, 15-17 µm in diameter, ornamentation consisting of ridges 0.5-1 µm wide and 0.5-1 µm high, forming a ± regular areolate reticulum with 3-6(-8) meshes/diameter
Host: Ceratodon purpureus
Habitat: on soil with pioneer mosses
Distribution: scattered in Germany (BY, BE, BB, NW, SN, SH, TH), also known from Austria, Canary Islands (Tenerife, Janošík unpublished), Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Montenegro (Janošík unpublished), Norway, Sweden (Isaksson 2022), Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
Note: It ist very similar to L. kristiansenii and the differences of these two species are not yet fully resolved. The spores seem to be slightly samller with 15–17 µm compared with 16-18 µm including ornamentation in L. kristiansenii. In contrast to Benkert (2009) the concept of L. feurichiana should be restricted to collections on C. purpureus and similar specimens growing on other mosses most likely represent other species (Egertová et al. 2018).
